Since their emergence onto the market Air Fryers have been praised as the answer to all our problems. These devices can supposedly cook all our favorite fried food (like chips, battered fish, mars bars) with just air…
Resist the urge to cry witchcraft because it turns out there is a simple scientific explanation for why the air fryer can cook french fries using 50X less oil than a deep fat fryer.
Using a tablespoon of oil and a lot of hot air the Air Fryer is able to replicate the color change, moisture content, and texture of many fried recipes.
The major issue when it comes to Air Fryers is picking the right one.
In this article, we've picked out the top two Brio Air Fryers produced by NuWave. We've highlighted their pros and cons, as well as looking at all their important features. By the time you've finished this article, you'll be ready to treat yourself to the perfect Air Fryer.
Before we get into the views we'll be taking a quick look at NuWave to see if they are a trusted company.
Let's jump straight into it…
Who is NuWave?
NuWave is an American business that was founded by Jay S Moon. Mr. Moon was a former employee of Goldstar (now LG Appliances), who believed there were better ways to serve his customers.
Mr. Moon set up his own business in 1993, his intention was to create environmentally friendly products that would improve the quality of his customers' lives, without costing them a lot. The company has had a few names throughout its time, however, they finally settled on NuWave in 2014.
NuWave has often been referred to as the kings of small appliances, and the company has won many, many awards for its innovative products. One of their biggest success stories has been their Brio Air Fryer range. Which has won the 'Highest Rated' Air Fryer award for the last three years in a row.
NuWaves range also includes
Our Top Two Brio Air Fryers
There are two stars of the Brio Air Fryer range; the 6 quarts and the 14 quarts Air Fryers.
Continue reading to find out more about both of these options.
The 6 Quarts is the smaller of the two options from NuWave. But that's no reason to look down on it, as it is an amazing bit of kit.
This is going to be the perfect Air Fryer for couples or people living on their own.
Let's start by talking about its power. Despite having the space to cook less than half what the 14 Quarts can, the 6 Quarts have a very similar power level.
The 6 Quarts offers an impressive 1500 watts of power. Unlike its bigger sibling, it does not over different wattage settings.
The 6 Quarts has a digital temperature control system that lets you control the cooking temperature to half a degree. It can do this in the range of 100F - 400F. This is an option not offered by many competitors at this price point.
Because you have this level of control you are able not only to cook with this Air Fryer but to cook from frozen and to reheat food. These features will save you a lot of time in the long run.
The most useful accessory that comes with the 6 Quarts is the tray divider that allows you to safely cook two things at once.
The main flaw of this machine is that it doesn't have much variety. However, if you're looking for an Air Fryer to take the role of a deep fat fryer then the 6 Quarts does more than enough.
The Air Fryer also comes with a slow cooking option.
We also love the little touch of including a free recipe book with this Air Fryer. This is a Fryer designed for everybody, including beginners.
- 1500 watts of cooking power
- 6 quarts cooking at a time
- Reheat function
- 6 preset programs
- Comes with a free recipe book
- 100F - 400F cooking range
- Digital touch screen
- Tray divider included
- Can cook from frozen (no defrosting needed)
- Doesn't take up much more space than the 14 quarts but cooks half the amount
No variety of cooking styles
We're going to start this review with a little bit of a spoiler - there is very little wrong with this Air Fryer.
It's a great price, it's more than powerful enough, it has so much cooking capacity.., and it barely takes up any room.
Again, let's start with this machine's power level. The 14 Quarts offers a whopping 1800 watts of power, as well as adjustable wattage levels when cooking.
This really sets it apart from most of its competitors (both the more expensive devices and the ones at a similar price point).
The 14 Quarts also comes with 100 preset cooking programs, this is higher than what most machines offer. However, what really sets it apart from the rest is its ability to save custom settings.
The cooking space inside the 14 Quarts is large enough to roast a chicken (rotisserie style) whilst roasting potatoes underneath.
The machine even comes with rotisserie hooks included for free. It also comes with a basket, drip tray, griddle and 3 stainless steel, easy to clean racks.
With this range of accessories (and more available to purchase from NuWave) there really is no end to what you can cook in this Air Fryer.
The slow cooking option that comes with both NuWave Air Fryers is something unique in the Air Frying market. These Air Fryers have the option to be put on slow cooking mode.
Where this mode differs from most Air Fryers is that other brands only allow the machine to run for an hour or so at a time.
The NuWave Brio Air Fryers can be set to cook at low heat for a very long time. This feature means that you can use these Air Fryers as slow cookers or even use them to barbeque meat.
Being able to barbeque meat in your Air Fryer means it can add a lot more value to small kitchens or even kitchens in RVs.
Because the 14 Quarts has a much larger cooking capacity than the 6 Quarts, it would be easy to assume that it takes up much more space.
You would be wrong about that. This machine is only a few inches longer and 1.5 inches wider. It is roughly the size of a medium coffee machine.
It makes up the extra capacity by being quite a bit taller than the 6 Quart. However, NuWave has designed this well. It sits easily on a countertop, and will sit under hanging cabinets with ease.
In conclusion, this is a really well-priced, powerful piece of equipment that brings a lot to the table without taking up much space.
You can do everything from BBQ ribs, to roast chicken, to 'frying' fish in the 14 Quarts. It comes with multiple, useful accessories that give it a huge amount of variety.
It's digital control panel gives you temperature control to 0.5 of a degree.
- 1800 watts of cooking power
- 14 quarts cooking at a time
- Digital Touch Screen
- 100 preset programs
- Can add your own programs
- 3 easy to clean racks
- Griddle attachment included
- Basket attachment included
- Rotisserie accessory included
- Multiple wattage settings
- Is quite tall (around the height of an average coffee machine)
And the Winner is….
For us, the 14 Quarts Air Fryer is undoubtedly the winner. It does cost an extra 50% on top of the 6 Quarts price, however, you get more than your money's worth with this device.
One of the major reasons for us crowning the 14 Quarts the victor is the fact that it has over double the cooking capacity, but only takes up a little bit more counter space.
This makes it a better option for both traditional kitchens and RV kitchens that are strapped for space. It does this by being tall rather than wide.
The 14 Quarts also comes with a large number of accessories, and the space inside the machine to use them. Due to the shape of the 6 Quarts, it can only fry things in its tray. However, the 14 Quarts is shaped more like a microwave and has a lot more versatility.
The number of preset programs available may or may not be very useful to you depending on your cooking style. But it is worth noting that the 14 Quarts offers 100 programs (and the ability to save your own) compared to the 6 offered by the 6 Quarts.
For all the reasons mentioned above, we have crowned the Brio 14 Quarts Air Fryer NuWave's best Air Fryer.
